You know you`re from Norway when...

Some of you people out there probably wonder how to spot the typical Norwegian. What kind of behavior sets the Norwegians apart from other people? Well, here are some clues

You know you`re from Norway when...

you go for a swim when its only 12 degrees Celsius (53F) in the water and claim that its fresh

This is something we Norwegians do a lot. When summer break starts here in Norway, the water is actually pretty cold. Anyhow, we all jump in without thinking twice, and we think its wonderful.

Ice weather for a dip: cold-water swimming is no longer the preserve of eccentric middle-aged men

...in winter, you go to school in the dark and come home in the dark - while only working normal eight-hour days.

Since Norway is located north of the Arctic Circle we have midnight sun and corresponding winter darkness. Therefore its mostly dark from November to January.

if you´re the only person on a bus and somebody sits down in the seat next to you, you will think the person is either a foreigner or totally crazy.

Norwegians don´t like to come too close to a person they don´t know.

...you can't remember when to say "please" and "excuse me".

We Norwegians are not the most polite in how we treat each other in everyday life.

...You think theres no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothing.

If you`re on a trip and the weather is awful, you dont complain about the bad weather, you blame yourself for not dressing up properly.

 wet weather

you like the idea of spending a week in a small wooden cottage up in the mountains, with no running water and no electricity.

This is what we Norwegians associate with a typical Easter break. We sit by the fireplace and eat Kvikk Lunsj (tastes exactly the same as Kit Kat) and drink hot chocolate.

...you think riding a bike in the snow is a perfectly sensible thing to do (with or without winter tires)

The bike is the Norwegians best friend. We use it in all the time, even when it snows.

...if you have ever owned a pair of cross country skies.

Skiing is very important to most Norwegians, and you even have a saying that Norwegians are born with skies on their feet.

    1. most people wear a bathing suit when they go for a swim, but someone choose to swim naked. And it depends on person to person if you sleep during the day, but especially during the sumnmer, some people choose to lay down for an hour or two just to relax:)
