1. Finland is named "the land of a thousand lakes", but Norway`s lakes do in fact outnumber Finland`s. Finland has 188,00 lakes and Norway have about 450,00 (almost half a million!)
The Norwegian lakes are also the deepest in Europe - on first place "Horningdalsvatnet" in Nordfjord (514 meters deep) and on second place "Mjøsa" which also is the biggest lake in Norway.

2. The American movie Star Wars: Empire Strikes Back(episode 5) was partly shot in Finse, near the Oslo-Bergen railway, in 1979.

3. In Norway you find the world`s longest road tunnel - Lærdal road tunnel - it is 24.5 kilometers long or 15.2 miles and it`s placed on the E16. And it took 5 years to build it (1995-2000)
You will also find the worlds deepest underwater road tunnel- Eikesund road tunnel - it`s 287 meters deep (942 feet) between Volda and Ulstein in western Norway.

4. Most people think that Columbus was the first European to discover America, but actually it was a Norwegian viking named Leif Ericson. He came to America in year 1000, and that means he was there 496 years before Columbus.
5. Norway is the country in Europe (Russia excluded) with the longest coastline - 53,199 km.

6. In 2011, 37% of the Norwegian population completed postsecondary education, making them the best educated people in Europe!
7. Norway was ranked the best country for the State Of The World`s Mothers 2012 by Save the Children. And Norway has topped the Human Development Index from 9 out of 11 years from 2001 to 2011. The other two years (2007 and 2008) it came second after Iceland.
8. Norway has won more Winter Olympic medals than any other country on Earth, with a grand total of 303 medals (including 107 gold medals) as of 2012, 50 more than the USA. Norway also has the highest number of combined Summer and Winter Olympic medals per capita, with 451 medals for 4.7 million inhabitants, or 95.9 medals per million people.
9. The modern cheese slicer was patented in 1925 by Thor Bjørklund, a Norwegian carpenter. And one of the most popular kinds of cheese in Norway is a brown, caramelised whey cheese known as brunost.

11. Apart from regular beer, you can only buy alcohol from stores called Vinmonopolet. There are only a few in each city and none in the smaller countryside settlements.

I found the facts vary cool and I did not know any of the facts. My favorite fact was about Star Wars. That and I did not think prison looked that nice.
SvarSlettWow, these are really cool. I guess its safe to say that in the US there really arnet that many cool things. We have New York and the Grand Canyon, those are pretty cool. Norway sounds really cool though, I would like to visit sometime!

SvarSlettWow, our prisons in the US are not even relatively close to looking as good as your guys prisons. Are those prisons for everybody that commits a crime?
SvarSlettI don`t thing the prison you see in the picture is for every one, but I think that if you`re gonna stay long in prison you get a nicer one than if you`re gonna stay in a short amout of time.

I think it would be a fun time to drive through the tunnel and see the different lights in the tunnel to keep you awake. If that is actually what the lights on the side of the road while you are driving though the tunnel. What is the mountain or hill that it is cutting through. SvarSlettThe moutain that the tunnel is cutting through is in the north-east of Jotunheimen(it is a big moutain rage in the midle of Norway) and it was buildt so we could drive from Bergen to Oslo and don`t over the moutain so it would go faster, if that made any sense.
SlettIn Norway we drive mostly the same cars that people in other country do, it`s not like we have or own type of car or anything, but very many people drive Tesla and Porche.
